Since 1909 the IET has called Savoy Place home, although the membership based organisation began life in 1871 as the Society of Telegraph Engineers, formed to address the concerns of that emerging profession and the developing electrical science industry. Shortly afterwards in 1887 it became the Institution of Electrical Engineers, name-changing once again in 2006 to its current guise.
With a mission to inspire, inform and influence the global engineering community, supporting technological innovation to meet the needs of society, the IET recently undertook a two-year £30 million refurbishment of Savoy Place, to make the building more flexible, adaptable to changing technology, to improve its sustainability and promote accessibility.

NB: There are no arrangements for Session Access Ticket holders to eat lunch in the conference venue or join the Full Delegate Ticket holders at their seated lunch. Session Access Ticket holders should make their own arrangements to eat elsewhere at lunchtime. It will not be permitted to eat packed-lunches in the conference venue. There are nearby public gardens and many local cafés and restaurants.
