Joined the National Theatre in 1981 as a lighting technician, became Chief Lighting Technician in 1986. Then moved into the Planning Department where he helped develop a computer based production scheduling system and a more effective and streamlined production process. In 2007 he worked with Haworth Tompkins Architects on the Conservation Management Plan for the Grade 2* listed building, prior to taking on the role of Deputy Project Director for the £80m NT Future refurbishment project. In 2017 he took on a new role, working to ensure the original architectural design intent of both the original designs and recent major refurbishment, and the ambitions of Executive team, evolving and responding to changing artistic and financial pressures, are effectively aligned. As well as leading the company towards a more environmentally sustainable model.
